Through active industry consultation and engagement, Freelance Animation School course is continually updated to meet current industry standards and provide students with relevant training.


Freelance is currently in the process of upgrading the curriculum offered for 2012 as per below;


Diploma in Applied Animation 2012
2D elective focuses on strengthening drawing skills, covering the principles of animation with stronger emphasis on character animation and learning the industry relevant software packages to apply the animation skills.
3D elective focuses on covering solid foundation drawing skills and the basics of all aspects in CGI (modelling, rigging, lighting, texturing, rendering) with stronger emphasis on character animation.


Diploma in Digital Media 2012
DDM curriculum focuses on the industry relevant software packages and production pipeline for both 2D and 3D electives. Software package includes but not limited to: Flash, Toonboom and Autodesk Maya. Both 2D and 3D students will gain opportunity to learn all software regardless of their elective choice. Upon obtaining software and production pipeline knowledge, students have the opportunity to apply their refined skills through variety of projects including but not limited to: individual project, group project and industry brief.


With the goal of producing animation ‘generalists’ and character animators, Freelance hopes to provide better job prospects to graduates and offer them more options for longer lasting careers in Auckland’s growing animation industry.
